Athens
After a night of ok sleep, we were up and out early. Didn't un pack anything apart from essentials as trying to get everything into my rucksack is a mission especially even you fly budget airlines and I had to add my swimming treasures in. It's fair to say I only kept one mask which is attached to the outside of my rucksack. So It looks like It has eyes 🤣
Anyway so we must the hostel by 8, map in hand we headed for the sights. We were lucky enough to have the market next to the hostel so that was it first stop. We picked up and super cheap fruit and some amazing and cheap olives.
Then we had a wander through the meat and fish market. The meat market always fascinates me, although I'm not eating meat to see the fact that you can buy pretty much any part of the animal is amazing, nothing goes to waste. There was one butcher who was dissecting the head of I guess a cow or an ox. The tongue was already out, and he was taking off what ever else he could!
Then we moved to the fish market, so many types of fish and so fresh. Particularly here there were prawns, lots and lots of prawns all sizes.
Well as we only had two hours to see the city we didn't hang around. Off we headed towards the main attraction. The streets in Athens when in the centre are narrow and mainly pedestrianised. We stumbled across an out chapel in the center that then lead us up to views of The Acropolis. It is a magnificent site up there on the hill.
We knew that we didn't have time to enter but I had done some research and had read that you could see and get great fotos by entering the museum and going straight to the 2nd floor restaurant.
So we made our way towards the museum, we happened to follow a family that took us through some super cute passageways. Full of flowers, beautiful little houses and quaint steps. It really was a labyrinth.
It was a lovely way to see a different part of the city and of course there was no one. We made it round to the entrance where there were so many people, time running away with us we headed straight for the museum. Bags searched aimed straight for the lift and into the restaurant. I figure if you do these things confidently, it looks like you know what your doing!!
So we entered the restaurant and headed straight for the terrace, no one battered an eyelid. The views as described were great, but the best thing was the reflection of the Acropolis in the glass of the museum. It was brilliant. A great find!! As we left the security lady by the lift didn't look too impressed but we weren't doing anything we shouldn't so we left with some great fotos in hand.
We walked to the station passing some more ruins, Zeus temple for one. Snapping away. We arrived at the station all set to the metro when we saw a sign for an airport bus. Looked for tickets, half the price and same amount of time. Bought the tickets, checked where we could get the bus and off we went.
Catching the bus to the airport is so much better as you get a free tour of the city. So we saw a few more sights and arrived at the airport. Athens airport is full on the busiest airport I have ever been to, there were people everywhere. So many people. We flew through security, grabbed a bite to eat. Headed for the gate and in no time we were boarding.
A quick smooth flight and we were starting our descent into Dubrovnik, flying along the coast. The colour of the water was incredible and the were so many boats. It looked so pretty 😍
