Fires

I woke up early had headed for a swim, sky looked kinda grey but it was obvs still warm.  The swimming area is marked out by bouys and quite limited but on one end it just stops so I thought about swimming a bit further out, and then along came a speed boat to put me in my place !

So I continued to swim around and around, checking the sky as it was getting darker.  Then came the first roll of thunder and a little bit of lightning! I kept swimming, more thunder, darker clouds, more thunder and then more lightning.  And as much as I love swimming in a storm lightning is the sign to leave.

As I got it the rain started but also I noticed that the top of the hill/mountain behind the hostel was literally on fire !! There had been a warning about forest fires in the area but this was full on on fire!! I got back to the apartment just in time before the heavens really opened.  Al though I was wet already.

For the morning we decided to go in and explore the old town.  It's nice because you can walk up on the wall to be able to see inside and out.  There was a local group singing which was cool they had so much energy.  We listened for a while and kept wandering.  Kerry's back is still not great so we are quite limited to what we can do, but we saw enough.  The one thing that is crazy with in the walls is the amount of cats.  They are everywhere!!!

Quick siesta and then off to the beach for the afternoon.  The top of the hill still smoking and seeing the occasional flame.  The smoke was now coming from a bit further down.  Still miles away from us but!

We had decided on pizza for tea because you could get a slice as big as your head for 3€ it didn't disappoint.  Tonight was the carnival parade so we took a place on the city wall and watched from above.  The streets were lined there were so many people!! We watched a few groups go passed and then we were done.  Had an early start in the morning and still needed to pack!!

By this point the fire had definitely got bigger and had started moving down the hill.  Asked a lady in the apartments who had never seen this before, they said the firemen are watching and it's not a concern at the moment.
